Construction is underway for a new 1,000-bed student residence, targeted for completion in 2013. The new residence will be built on the Althouse building north parking lot, south of Sarnia Road and west of Western Road.

In September 2011, Western welcomed its largest cohort of students ever, welcoming more than 5,100 students to campus. The new student residence will assist the University in easing the current pressure on the residence system, accommodating students taking advantage of the first-year residence guarantee.
