At Western, we believe that residence life programming can be defined as any action taken by a residence staff member for the floor or for a resident that promotes a healthy, positive environment.
It can be as simple as a staff member being available to talk to a resident who is feeling homesick. Or, it can be a sign posted on the staff member's door in October that reads "Relationships often end at this time of year... You are not alone... Talk to someone."
No matter how small or large the programming effort may be, residents are essentially brought into the residence life experience in their own time, at their own pace, and one at a time. We remember that each resident has his or her own special set of needs, and we work hard to be as responsive and supportive as possible.
